Cue the we're in a different league to you chants at the remaining games of the season!!!!
Mercifully, like a sick animal being put to sleep, the Hornets finally confirmed that it will be Championship football for them next season. Most of us have been fully aware of this inevitability since the harsh reality of a long, cold winter set in when we lost tamely at home to Sheffield United back in November.
Strangely, Saturdays game felt remarkably similar to that evening in November in respect of the fact that the Hornets were not at their best and neither were their opponents. The game was played in sunny, warm weather (maybe a slight difference from November then) and both teams seemed to treat it like you would a pre-season friendly with little effort and no real quality.
The first effort on either goal appeared to be the Man City goal, Lloyd Doyley passing the ball back to Ben Foster and rather than putting his foot through the ball he decided to pass it to Chris Powell. Alas he "studded" it to Vassell who had the simple task of sidefooting it into the unguarded net!
This didn't spark Watford into life though and the lacklustre performance continued.
It was only when Duggie Rinaldi played Tamas Priskin through on 75 minutes and the Hungarian cooly finished that Watford decided to put a bit into the game. Marlon King, making his first full start since his long lay off just missed a difficult chance with 10 minutes left and that was it! Three meaningfull chances in the whole game. Watford relegated with a whimper!
Still, on the bright side, at least Luton were relegated before us!
