Someone in March asked me about how I felt people did.
Now that everyone has been told yes or no, I can be totally honest!!!!!!!!!!
I thought that generally the standard of people I saw was quite average with the odd one or two clearly standing out from the rest. I would recommend that anyone who gets an opportunity to be on the "other side" of the job application fence gives it a go it was a good experience for me.
Another thing which became apparent is that Station staff are at an advantage when it comes to this sort of process due to the structure of the Station grades. It is far easier to gain the experience by going from CSA to Supervisor grades as you actually get a chance to manage staff. The problem is that too many people look short term when they are a CSA and look at the money that a Train Operator makes, yet in the long term going the Supervisor route would be beneficial in the long term.
Having said that, I'm aware that some of the top scoring applicants in Interviews, role plays and presentations were Train Operators! Why? Because they put loads of effort into preparation!
What's the old saying "Fail to prepare, prepare to fail"!!!!!!!!!!!
At the start there was around 840 people who registered an interest in the Duty Manager role. A grand total of 47 people are now embarking on their new career as a Duty manager! If you were one of them - Bloody well done - It's a hard process to come through!
